The winery is located in Mendavia, near Navarre, in the Spanish Rioja sub-region of Rioja Oriental. It was founded in 1985 by a group of respected Rioja specialists and is owned by a group of investors (Diez, Noain and Santos-Ruiz families). In the midst of the vineyards stands an old monastery dating back to 1548, which has been completely restored. The first wine was produced in 1990. The vineyards cover 140 hectares of vines planted with Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Viura (Macabeo) and Cabernet Sauvignon. There are 12,000 barrique barrels made of 85% American and 15% French oak for ageing. Riojas are produced in white, rosé and red. The flagship is the single-vineyard wine "Finca del Monasterio" made from 60% Tempranillo and 40% different experimental varieties. The product range includes a Reserva, a Gran Reserva, a Rosado, as well as the wines "El Meson Las Atillas" and "El Meson Selecciónada".
