Barlinka

The red grape variety originates from Algeria. The exact origin and parentage is unknown. The vine has blue-red berries and is one of the most successful table grapes. It is cultivated in Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and in large quantities, especially in South Africa. It was introduced here by wine-growing pioneer Professor Abraham Izak Perold (1880-1941). In Europe, it is marketed in the spring months. It is also used as a wine grape. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
