The white grape variety is a new variety between Azal Branco x Amaral. Synonyms are Barcello and Barcelos. This was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2013. However, this is based on only 19 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The cross was made in Portugal by the breeder José Leão Ferreira de Almeida. The medium ripening vine is susceptible to trickling. It produces fresh, fruity white wines. The variety is mainly grown in the Beiras region; it is authorised in the Dão area. In 2016, 26 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
