The white grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Barba Rossa, Barbarossa, Barbarossa a Feuilles Cotonneuses, Barbarossa a Foglie Cotonose, Barbarossa del Piemonte, Barbarossa di Finale, Barbarossa di Liguria, Barbarossa Ovale, Barbarossa Verdona, Brizzola, Rossera and Verduna. It must not be confused with the Barbarossa di Piemonte variety, with partly identical syonyms. The origin (parentage) of the red berry vine is unknown. Nothing is known about possible relations to one of the many Barbarossa varieties. The variety is suitable as a wine press and table grape. In 2016 no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
