The winery is located in the municipality of Dexheim (Nierstein area) in the German wine growing region of Rheinhessen. After training as a viticultural technician, Hans Reinhard Berges expanded it to its present size. After studying viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim, son Dirk joined the business. Attached are a guest house and a vinotheque, which are managed by his wife Marianne. The vineyards cover 13 hectares, most of which are in the Doktor (Dexheim) vineyard, as well as Schloss (Dienheim), Schloss (Oppenheim) and Paterberg (Nierstein). Two thirds of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Morio-Muscat, Bacchus, Chardonnay, Silvaner, Scheurebe, Huxelrebe, Optima and Ortega, and one third with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Dornfelder, Merlot and Portugieser. The first grape harvest always takes place in the second week of August and is only used for the production of Federweiß from the Ortega variety. The product range includes red wines, rosé wines and white wines, which are aged in steel tanks, large wooden barrels or barriques, depending on the type of wine. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are pressed. We also produce bottle-fermented sparkling wines, semi-sparkling wines, grape juices, noble brandies (grape, yeast, Marc) and liqueurs.
