Popular single vineyard designation in the German wine-growing region Mosel area Saar (the name does not occur in the other wine-growing regions). The name is derived from "Kuppe" (mountain or hilltop).
A vineyard with the name Kupp was first mentioned in documents in 1304 as the property of the Trier burgher Wilhelmus. At a wine auction in 1906, a cartload of "1904er Ayler Kupp" fetched the highest price ever paid on the Saar, 15,030 gold marks.
