In the Lower Austrian Weinviertel, a common term (dialectally "Beu") for the "bung wood" (a correspondingly shaped round piece of wood) used in the past to close the bung hole in the top centre of the wine barrels (pictured left). Today these are made of rubber, plastic or glass. See also under wine-growing customs and barrel types.
