Rinse a wine vessel such as a drinking glass, jug or carafe with some wine (dishwater) before use. At best, the wine used for this purpose is the same as the one poured afterwards. This eliminates any side odours. These can come from the washing-up liquid, from the cupboard in which the glass was stored, a surface on which the glass was placed upside down or from other sources in the vicinity. This makes the vessel "wine friendly" or "wine green". At professional tastings, the glass is often washed out with the next wine. Vinification has a completely different meaning.
