The public limited company AVL, which is active in the wine industry, was founded in 1991 by Brian McGuigan in the Australian state of New South Wales under the name Roserim Limited. His grandfather Owen McGuigan had already started growing grapes in Rothbury in the Hunter Valley wine-growing area in 1880. His father Percival (Perc) McGuigan was the owner of the Wyndham Estate. In 1992, the Bethany Creek and Vine Vale vineyards were purchased, as well as the four wineries Richmond Grove, Deaseys Road, Hunter Ridge and Pokolbin in 1994. Between 1997 and 1998, the Hunter Ridge label was sold to the wine multinational Hardy's and the Hermitage vineyard and the Yaldara vineyard in the Barossa Valley region were acquired in 1999. Subsequently, there has been ongoing extensive buying and selling of vineyards and wineries.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
