The white grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Aubun Vert, Blanc d'Euvézin and Vert Blanc.

The variety was first mentioned in documents in 1722.
According to DNA analyses carried out in 1999, it is probably a natural cross between Pinot x Gouais Blanc (Heunisch). It should not be confused with the varieties Aubin Blanc, Aubun or Gros Vert due to some of the same synonyms or morphological similarities.
This early-maturing, high-yielding vine is not particularly susceptible to vine diseases. It produces simple, low-alcohol and acid-emphasised white wines for rapid consumption.
