The winery is located in Martinborough (Wairarapa, on the southern tip of North Island) in
New Zealand. It was founded in 1980 by Clive Paton with five hectares of vineyards. The name literally means "twilight sky" or "new beginning". Today, 34 hectares of vineyards are cultivated, 25% of which are owned. They are planted with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. The flagship is the Pinot Noir, which is counted among the best in New Zealand. Other top wines are Craighall Chardonnay and the red wine cuvée Célèbre (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah). About 10,000 cases (120,000 bottles) of wine are produced annually. Since the 2003 vintage, certain wines are bottled with
screw caps. The Walnut Ridge Winery with 2.5 hectares of vineyards, which is located in the immediate vicinity, was acquired in 2002.
