The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Alvaranzeniadu Bianco, Alvu Signadu, Argu Ingiannau, Arvesimiadu Bianco, Arvisionadu, Arvu Siniadu, Arvusiniagu, Avrisiniadu and Uva Oschirese.

It was already mentioned in documents in 1780. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown.
The late-ripening vine is resistant to frost and moderately resistant to fungal diseases. The white wines are mainly used for blending. It is also used as table grape.
It is cultivated on the island of Sardinia in the provinces of Campidano and Sassari, where it is authorised in many IGT wines. In 2016, 13 hectares of vineyards were designated with a downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
