Term (French artisan = craftsman) for a type of wine that belongs to the large group of so-called alternative wines. Internationally, however, the term natural wine (naked wine, vin nature, vino naturale) has established itself as a generic term for wines with alternative or artisanal production and also includes artisan wine.

The term is mainly used in English-speaking countries and emphasises the artisanal character of winemaking, i.e. the personal signature of the winemaker and the deliberate avoidance of industrial methods. As with all alternative wines, attention is paid to non-invasive interventions (as much as necessary, as little as possible), spontaneous fermentation with the vineyard's own natural yeasts and low sulphurisation.
