Arriloba

The white grape variety is a new breed between Raffiat de Moncade x Sauvignon Blanc. Arriloba means in the Basque language "the nephew of Pierre" (Harri = Pierre, Loba = nephew). The crossing took place on behalf of INRA in 1954 by the Basque Pierre Marcel Durquéty (1923-2016) with the support of the University of Montpellier. With the same parents, the variety Agorra was also created. The early ripening grape variety, productive grape is resistant due to hard-skinned berries against Botrytis. It produces a Sauvignon Blanc-like white wine and is also used as table grapes. In Southwest France, it is cultivated in the Charentais area on 46 hectares. There are also other cultivation areas in Brazil (2 ha) and Uruguay (6 ha). In 2016, 54 hectares of vineyard area were recorded (Kym Anderson).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
