Aranel

The white grape variety is a new variety between Grenache Gris x Saint-Pierre Doré (descendant of Gouais Blanc). The crossing was made in 1961 in France by the French ampelographer Paul Truel (1924-2014) on behalf of the INRA in Montpellier. The plant variety protection was granted in 1987. The medium maturing, high-yielding vine is resistant to botrytis. It produces a fruity white wine with discreet acidity and floral aromas. The variety is cultivated in south-eastern France in Provence; in 2016, five hectares of vineyard area were designated (statistics Kym Anderson). A small stock is also supposed to exist in Australia (New South Wales).
