Description (Greek for shapeless and formless or malformed) in the context of a wine description or wine evaluation. The term should always be understood in the context of the respective description, as it can denote different visual or sensory impressions. In a visual context, amorphous is often used for shapeless or flaky cloudy particles that make the wine appear unclear.
In a sensory context, amorphous describes a lack of or insufficient expression of body and structure. Such a wine appears arbitrary, contourless or without a recognisable profile because the relevant components such as acidity, alcohol, tannins and other extract substances do not produce a harmonious overall picture. Related and sometimes not so comprehensive terms are artificial (artificial), bland, flat, sick and unclean.
