Ambulo Blanc

The white grape variety (breeding number Walker 09314-102) is a complex, interspecific new breeding between varieties of the species Vitis vinifera (97%), Vitis rupestris (1.5%) and Vitis arizonica (1.5%). The Vitis vinifera varieties involved were Cabernet Sauvignon (62.5%), Chardonnay (12.5%) and Carignan Noir = Mazuelo (12.5%). The crossing was done in the 1990s by the geneticist Dr. Andrew Walker, professor at the University of California in Davis. By the way, Caminante Blanc was also developed from the same varieties. This early-ripening vine is extremely resistant to the disease Pierce Disease, which is becoming increasingly common due to climate change. It produces straw-yellow, slightly bitter white wines with aromas of apples, citrus fruits, limes and gooseberries. In 2016, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson).
