The white grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Alvarega di Ozieri, Arvarega, Bariadorgia, Bariadorgia Bianca, Bariadorza, Barria Dorgia, Barriadorgia, Barriadorgia Bianca, Barriadorja, Barriadorza, Carcaghiolu, Carcaghiola Bianca, Carcagholu Biancu, Carcagliolu, Carcajola, Carcajolo Bianco, Carcajolo Blanc, Cargajola Blanc, Erbisedda, Fragrante, Gregu Bianco, Praecox, Variateja, Variatoghja and Verzolina Bianca.
According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Visparola x unknown father variety. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). It is identical to the Corsican Carcajolo Blanc, which was first mentioned here in 1822, and the Bariadorgia cultivated in Sardinia. It should not be confused with the morphologically similar Corsican variety Biancu Gentile.
