Popular name for vineyards or sites in Austria; there are at least five with this name. Sometimes there are also other spellings like Altbergen or Altberg.
The reed has a 600-year history and originated in the historic Golser wine mountains. It is a south-western slope on the edge of the Parndorfer Platte and comprises 52 hectares of vineyards. The soil conditions are varied. At the top of the slope, the soil consists of loess with directly standing gravel and crushed stone, on the central slope of loess with sandy, clayey subsoil and pure loess at the foot. The subsoil is characterised by a high lime content. Above all, the red wine varieties Zweigelt, BlaufränkischSt. Laurent and Merlot, as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay andPinot Blanc.
