Altenberg de Bergheim

One of the Alsace (Haut-Rhin) sites classified as Grand Cru within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation (not to be confused with Altenberg de Bergbieten) The site confirmed its high class with excellent wines already in the 12th century. The vineyards cover 35 hectares of vineyards on calcareous clay in the municipality of Bergheim. They are particularly suitable for the Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris varieties. The planting density here is very dense with up to 10,000 vines per hectare. Since the 2007 vintage, an exemption has also allowed the production of cuvées. Well-known producers are Marcel Deiss, Gustave Lorentz and Domaine Spielmann.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
