The winery "Azienda Agricola Cascina Nuova di Elio Altare" is located in the municipality of La Morra (province of Cuneo) in the Italian wine-growing region of Piedmont. Founded in 1948, the winery is now run by Elio Altare. He is considered a pioneer in viticulture and a forerunner of new methods in the Langhe. In 1978, he introduced berry thinning, which was unusual in this region at the time, in order to increase quality. He also began experimenting with barrique ageing. Altare is considered one of the pioneers of modern Barolo and Barbera wines. The vineyards cover nine hectares, planted with Nebbiolo (33%), Dolcetto (30%), Barbera (20%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and other red varieties. The flagship is the Barolo "Vigneto Arborina". The DOC wines Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba and Langhe are also produced. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. It is worth mentioning that the entire 1997 vintage was spoiled by bad corks and was therefore not marketed.
