The German wine magazine was founded in 1982 by journalist Heinz-Gert Woschek with the challenging goal of reporting "everything about wine" to the somewhat pre-educated wine lover. As publisher and editor-in-chief, he established the magazine as one of the leading wine magazines in Europe. Later, Woschek retired from the operative business and acted as editor for some time. The international professional world recognised this achievement with numerous honours at home and abroad. Later, the magazine was taken over by the Bertelsmann publishing house. The English wine critic and wine writer Michael Broadbent (1927-2020), pictured on the left, described the magazine as "Germany's best wine magazine".

I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
