The winery is located near the municipality of Ausejo in the Spanish Rioja sub-region of Rioja Oriental. Gonzalo Rojas began producing wines in 1920 as a young man in his first bodega in Laguardia, which were highly sought after by French merchants. In 1962, at the age of 65, he bought 1,000 hectares of fallow land (a former hunting ground of the Marqués de Legarda) and began to cultivate part of it for viticulture. This is considered the founding date of the winery. Today, the business is run by Alica Rojas. The vineyards cover a total of 125 hectares. They are planted with Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Graciano, Viura (Macabeo), Malvasía and Mazuelo. The Collado de la Estrella vineyard is cultivated according to ecological criteria.
