The winery is located in the municipality of Konz-Oberemmel (Saar area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. It is owned by Alfred Kirchen. The vineyards cover 8.5 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Altenberg, Karlsberg and Rosenberg (Oberemmel) in a wind-protected side valley on the lower course of the Saar. They are planted with 85% Riesling, as well as Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. The aim is to produce wines with natural aromas that reflect the terroir of the vineyards. The wines are fermented slowly and gently for up to 12 months with the vineyard's own yeasts. In years with suitable weather conditions, an ice wine is also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced, as well as fine brandies (yeast brandy, marc, fruit) and liqueurs in the in-house distillery.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
