In
Austria there are almost one hundred locations for training at an agricultural and forestry college (LFS). These are part of the vocational secondary schools and fall under the competence of the provinces in cooperation with the BMLFUW (Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management). Institutes for research and training in viticulture are located in
Klosterneuburg(Klosterneuburger Weinbauinstitut),
Krems and Mistelbach in Lower Austria
Silberberg in Styria as well as Eisenstadt in Burgenland (see also under
viticulture training).
The agricultural college in Eisenstadt is a vocational secondary school with a four-year training period. It offers a sound education in viticulture, cellar management, fruit growing, fruit processing, vegetable growing, plant production, agricultural technology, farm management and marketing. Facilities for practical training are: Viticulture farm with modern equipped cellar, vegetable farm with glasshouse and foil houses, fruit farm, fruit processing room with distillery, experimental areas for grain cultivation, wine laboratory, soil laboratory, workshop for metal and wood processing, sales kiosk. Upon graduation, the students receive a certificate of proficiency in "viticulture and cellar management" or "agriculture with viticulture, fruit growing and vegetable production". After working in agriculture for three years and attending preparatory courses, the viticulture and cellar master's examination can be taken.
