The red grape variety is a new breed between Bellino x Précoce de Malingre. Synonyms are Agostenga Rossa, I.P. 14, Pirovano 14, Blue Silk Grape (Silk Grape Blue) and Red Silk Grape (Silk Grape Red). The crossing was made in 1901 at the Research Centre in Rome by the Italian breeder Alberto Piròvano (1884-1973). According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, the parentage Bellino x Madeleine Angevine indicated in the breeding list turned out to be wrong. The variety is used as a wine press and table grape. No stocks were reported in 2010 (statistics Kym Anderson).
