Ackermann Frank

The winery is located in the municipality of Ilbesheim (area Südliche Weinstraße) in the German wine region of the Palatinate. Originally a mixed agricultural enterprise, the estate specialized in viticulture in the 1960s. The wines were self-marketed from 1972 onwards. Since 2000, the farm has been managed by Frank Ackermann, with father Karl-Heinz taking care of the outside operations. The vineyards comprise 13 hectares of vineyards in the locations Hasen (Eschbach), Kaiserberg (Göcklingen), Rittersberg (Ilbesheim) and Sonnenberg (Leinsweiler). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Portugieser, Dornfelder, Merlot, Cabernet Dorsa and Cabernet Franc. Cultivation is carried out taking into account the interrelationships between grape variety, location and vegetation phase by means of a differentiated approach to row planting, leaf cutting, soil cultivation, grape care and yield reduction. The wines are fermented individually with controlled temperatures for each type of wine, some of them are stored on the fine yeast for a very long time and aged in stainless steel, wooden barrels or oak barriques. One hectare is used for fruit-growing and fine spirits are produced in the distillery.
