The red grape variety (also Acitana Nera, Citana Nera) comes from the island of Sicily in Italy. The variety is grown in small quantities in the two north-eastern provinces of Catania and Messina, where it is blended with other local varieties such as Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mascalese. Among other things, it is permitted in the DOC red wine Faro.
