The Austrian gourmet magazine "A la Carte" with an editorial focus on delicatessen, wine and restaurants is published six times a year. It was founded in 1988 by Hans Schmid, who also acted as publisher until 2017. Christian Grünwald has been the editor-in-chief since 1990 and has also been co-editor since 1998. The annual Guide A la Carte has been published since 1991, ranking the best restaurants in Austria. The top 100 restaurants are explicitly mentioned and honoured in a ranking of 100. In addition, all restaurants are awarded one to three bottles of wine based on the wine list. This guide was published in book form for a long time.

Since 2022, the annual ranking has been published online and in the first A la Carte magazine of the respective year. The annual A la Carte Wine Guide is still published in book form. Willibald Balanjuk has headed the A la Carte wine editorial team since 2012 and is also responsible for the wine tasting and rating in the 100-point system. Much of the content of the magazine and the guides can be accessed free of charge at alacarte.at. The German publication A la Carte, published by Klocke-Verlag, has nothing to do with A la Carte-Austria, either commercially or in terms of content. See also under wine guide and wine rating.
